    Divorce & Downsize

I'm sorry you're going through this, but I'm glad it sounds like it's going well so far. For some reason I think you live in the Puget Sound area. Housing prices really are going crazy there, so selling sounds like a good option. However, I'd make sure you can find something before you sell. Downsizing may actually cost more than what you're paying now, so it might make more sense to stay put even if there's more space than you need.

    The first week jinx

What a scary experience! So glad you checked the alarm instead of taking a nap! That is a lot to go wrong all at once. Hopefully things settle down for you!
  3. I think if you are depressed enough to think you should go see a doctor to take the edge off, then do that. It will help. I know you are feeling ashamed, angry, and so many other emotions. Those are your feelings about it and they are all valid. However, I disagree with the label of "failure" that you have placed upon yourself. You are anything but. You are a strong person who chose to stop being treated poorly by somebody. You chose to walk away, knowing that it would come at a high cost to you emotionally and financially. You did it anyway because you know in your core that it was the right thing to do because you are worth it.
  4. This is one of those things where I'm pretty sure Suze Orman would go into her "People first, then money, then things" motto. I feed my dog Purina One Beyond. It's not the cheapest stuff either, but it's cheaper than Science Diet. My dog was having major problems with allergies when she was younger; the vet thought it might be the grains in dog food. She was always chewing on her paws and they were raw. Purina One Beyond does not have corn or gluten, and she has not had the allergy problem since switching to this food a few years ago. Do NOT use a retractable leash. They are dangerous. If you need to pull your dog back, you can't grab that little string, ESPECIALLY if they are in the middle of rushing it out to full length. It WILL slice right through your skin. I have a friend who got a nasty slice on the back of her leg when my dog ran towards something and the string rushed out along her leg. Get a leash that is good quality. I have a 6' leather leash and, for when it's dark, a 4' Kong leash that has reflective threads in it. The toys that have held up best for my dog (she's a mystery mix) are Kong toys and these dragon toys that are built strong. They're about $15 for one at a pet store, but Costco sells them in a 3-pack for about $18.
  5. How exciting! I don't know if you posted this earlier, but are you planing to live in Panama full time once the house is built, or is this going to be some sort of vacation home?
  6. So RunDisney does several events throughout the year at both Disneyland and Disney World. This year, Disneyland is celebrating its 60th Anniversary. Incidentally, the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend is celebrating its 10th Anniversary. This morning, tickets for the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend were going to go on sale, and I knew they would sell out fast. The weekend has some kid's races, a 5k, 10k, and a Half. There's also the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge, where you do the 10k and the Half (they're on different days). I was reading a thread on another forum about all the people who were so excited to sign up, and some people were on the fence about spending the money. Of course, everybody encouraged them to JUST DO IT! It's a once in a lifetime thing to go on the 10th AND 60th anniversaries! YAY! I sketched out a predicted budget for going for the weekend: RunDisney event 400 3 nights at hotel 500 park tickets 300 flights 300 4 days food 150 Approximately $1650, give or take. For 4 days. BUT! I would not have to take a day off work. I started to register and the price for the event plus the souvenir pins came to over $425. I just couldn't do it. I knew that it would stress me out financially, and NONE of the dollars I have coming in are allocated to "RunDisney" at this time. One more thing....I'm actually DOING a RunDisney event in Disneyland this year. I'm doing the Pixie Dust Challenge, which is the same as the Dumbo Double Dare, but during Tinkerbell weekend in May. This trip was already budgeted and paid for last year. The slightly obnoxious thing is the timing; the trip is about 2 weeks before the 60th Anniversary events. The good thing is that the parks will hopefully be a little less crowded since maybe people will wait to go once the celebration starts, which I think lasts for a year. They are having a special parade and nighttime shows to celebrate. I can guarantee you that someone will post videos online of these shows, and I'll be able to watch for FREE. The Dumbo Double Dare DID sell out quickly....in 36 minutes from what I hear. The 10k sold out just minutes behind it. The 5k and all the kids races were also all sold out not long after that. There's still spots for the Half; it's "only" 80% sold so far. However, I am at peace with my decision and will NOT be signing up!
  7. Your MIL is unreal. Who goes through cards not intended for them, and then makes notations?! You mentioned you felt so much better - you even sound so much better through your post. I'm glad you got medication. Sorry you have one more stressful thing on your plate with the abdominal mass. I hope it ends up being nothing!
  8. Oh, this posts makes me so sad. I can just imagine the look she gave. I suspect that her speech and behavior issues are related. If she is struggling with communication, that can be extremely frustrating, and frustration often shows itself as behavior problems in children. Of course I'll pray for you, that you'll get answers so that you can create a plan for her based on the diagnosis, and then see improvement from it.
  9. The therapist cannot and will not change your situation. What she CAN do is help you process and cope with your situation. She'll help you with training yourself to think in certain ways. Those things that she can do will help you with your situation. Also, if you believe you are clinically depressed, and not "just sad," you really need go see your doctor, who can diagnose and prescribe medication that will help. From what I understand, therapists cannot diagnose unless they are licensed doctors. Don't let any shame you may be feeling keep you from getting actual help you may need before things spiral out of control. It will be a process and you will come out the other side stronger and happier. There was a reason that led you down this path, so don't fall into the trap of remembering only the good times. The journey is not easy, but necessary. Stay strong, hang in there, and lean on people when you need to. We're here.
  10. I've done RunDisney races a few times. The 10K for Princess weekend sold out within a few days. Some of their races sell out within hours. They are fun, but also more expensive than other runs of the same length. Their races open for registration about 6-8 months out; the Marathon Weekend races for January 2015 went on sale a week or so ago. The Princess Weekend races are usually the weekend following President's Day. There is the Enchanted 10K and the Princess Half. Their site says registration will open at noon on July 15th. You can have them send you an email reminder. It will sell out quickly. I like the Princess weekend races because they are women-focused and there are runners and walkers of all levels from beginning to elite and it's a great atmosphere.
  11. Congratulations! You're in Florida, right? Here in Louisiana, 10Ks and Halfs are a lot more common in the cooler months, and 5Ks are pretty much all I see on schedules for the next several months. I'm assuming that is similar for Florida also, so you might find more10Ks starting up around October.
  12. Thank you all for the support and cheers!
  13. The minimums are $100 and $265, so the medical bill should be done in 6 months.
  14. texasred - Most blogs I see here are paragraphs long. I figured I should put at least two sentences. I still have a medical bill that is on a payment plan at 0% interest. There's about $600 left. I also have a personal loan that is at 7.99% interest *cringe* with about $13,000 left. I'm only paying minimums on both of those right now because I am in storm cloud mode.
  15. *Doing happy dance!* That is all.
