To help keep all this in perspective, a friend of mine was speaking with a 90+ year old World War II Vet. He says he was sorry what everyone is going through at the moment. But it's nothing compared to what they had to go through in the 1940's during World War 2. We are being quarantined to our couches in our homes, they were being sent off to war. Not to mentioning all the rationing going on back in the day. I think what is going on now is a small taste of what our Parents, Grand Parents and now Great Grand Parents had to endure during the great war. I am not complaining so much anymore.

Andy, welcome back. WOW is all I can say really. I am sorry all that happened to you. As I was reading I keep thinking of David (King David, of the Bible). When it comes to things like this, I do not want to count on my "feelings", my "feelings" can get me into a lot of trouble. I believe lets take this to the source the Holy Bible and what God has to say. For those that believe tithing is Mosaic law, you might go back to the Old Testament as well as What Paul say's about Abraham. Paul mentions in Hebrews Chapter 7:1-12 where he speaks of the Old Testament king and priest Melchizedec (who some Bibical Scholars believes Melchizedec to be the prefigure of Jesus), who blessed Abraham upon Abraham's return from victory over a confederation of kings. Abraham then gave Melchizedec a tenth of all the spoils of these battles. This was 400 years before Moses and Mosiac law. And in Romains 4:12 we are to walk in the foot septs of the faith of Abraham, If tithing was good for him it should be good for us, too. We give tithes like Abraham gave them, not by the Law but by faith. If the people of God paid ten percent before the Law, and ten percent under the Law, shouldn't we, who live by grace, be doing any less when we have a better covenant. (Heb 7:22) Melchizedek received Abraham’s tithe. The Hebrew writer shows that Melchizedek is a prefigure of Jesus. We can conclude that just as Abraham gave a tithe to Melchizedek we give a tithe to Christ who is declared to be living. Some people think this is a new issue. It is as old as the second century when more and more Gentiles were being converted. The early Jewish believers had no problem with tithing since they had done it under the Law and gave it to the priests. They simply gave their tithe to the elders of the church and did by love (this is key). However, as the church became less Jewish this issue came up to the church fathers. They answered the question of tithing with Matthew 23:23: "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former." Notice Jesus said, "You should have practiced the latter (justice, mercy and faithfulness), without neglecting the former (tithing)." The fathers argued, and rightful so, that Jesus word ends the discussion. Since Jesus said not to neglect the former—being tithing—then no believer should neglect tithing. But also understand that tithing is just the beginning. God doesn't really want our money, like Dave's say's if God wanted our money he would take it and there would be a greasy spot where we were setting. God, wants us to be Christ like. And Christ was a giver, he gave his life for all of us. That my friend is the ultimate giver. And every time you give you are becoming more Christ like, its your faith in action. And that is what God is after, our hearts.

Many of us have and are working very hard to win our financial independence from debt. But on this date in 1836 a group of men, 59 delegates to the historic convention signed another type of declaration of Independence. You see, 49 current states that or part of the current United States were annexed into the good old USA. However Texas was the only Country that was annexed into the USA by Treaty and without war elected to be be part of the USA in 1845 and officially becoming a state in 1846. Also during this time Santa Anna with his army of nearly 5000 was in siege of the famous Alamo. And during that time the Alamo Commanding officer William Barret Travis wrote the following... “I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, and our flag still waves proudly from the walls – I shall never surrender or retreat.” -William Barret Travis at the Alamo, 1836 So every year on March 2, Texans celebrate a holiday that is entirely and uniquely Texan--- Texan Independence Day. The day marks the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence at the Convention of 1836 at Wasinton-On-the-Brazos. Of the 59 delegates at the convention were two delegates, Jose Francisco Ruiz and Jose Antonio Navarro, were native Mexicans. The rest were immigrants from other parts of Mexico, the United States, and Europe. Two-thirds of the delegates were less than forty years old. The delegates – and the people they represented – had a clear goal. They sought to preserve the freedoms guaranteed to them under the Mexican Constitution, which had been lost under the dictatorship of President Antonio López de Santa Anna. They modeled their Declaration on the one signed in Philadelphia 60 years earlier, expressing their just grievances, determination to protect their freedoms, and vision for a new nation: the Republic of Texas. Unlike the deliberations today in the U.S. Congress, the Texas Declaration of Independence was non-controversial and approved swiftly. The Unanimous Declaration of Independence by the Delegates of the People of Texas was signed on March 2, 1836. Five copies were sent to the towns of Bexar, Goliad, Nacogdoches, Brazoria, and San Felipe. Because there was no printing press in Washington-on-the-Brazos, the printer at San Felipe was ordered to print 1,000 copies in handbill form. The original copy was sent to the U.S. Department of State in Washington – where it would stay for six decades before being returned to the land where it was written. Even as the delegates signed this historic document, they knew their love of liberty might command the ultimate sacrifice. At that moment, less than 200 miles to the West, Santa Anna’s army was laying siege to the Alamo. Just days earlier, its young commander, William Barret Travis, sent a letter addressed to the people of the Republic of Texas and all Americans. He wrote: Fellow citizens and compatriots – I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna – I have sustained a continual Bombardment and cannonade for 24 hours and have not lost a man – The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken. I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, and our flag still waves proudly from the walls – I shall never surrender or retreat. Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism and everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid, with all dispatch – The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily and will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible and die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor and that of his country – Victory or Death! The Travis Letter became a rallying cry for freedom across the young Republic, and though death came to the defenders of the Alamo, victory eventually came for the people of Texas. Not long after the fall of the Alamo, General Sam Houston and about 900 Texas soldiers defeated the larger Mexican army at the Battle of San Jacinto. The surprise attack was so successful that the battle lasted only 18 minutes, and the next day Santa Anna himself was captured. By this victory, Texans won the independence they had declared less than two months earlier.
