  1. Well, my cheaper apartment turns out to be in the most unsafe neighborhood in town. Lots of drug dealers and such. So, I was going to pay $880 a month for the cheaper apartment and then I found out that there is a law in TN that occupancy in apartments can't be more than 2 people per room. So, the 3 bedroom cheapie apartments are $910-930 a month. Well, I don't want to live somewhere that it isn't safe to walk around at night. I put it out there that I am looking for a place and a friend who is moving is going to rent me her side of a duplex! It's $950 a month in a SAFE neighborhood with lots of kids around! Also, utilities should be cheaper combined than just our electric bill in this house! We are already working on reducing our belongings, we will end up sharing a storage unit with a friend who also needs one. Just for a little bit of stuff. We are getting rid of tons of stuff and because the house is available mid-August but we have this house until the end of August we can move most of our stuff ourselves. Overall, we should save at least $400 a month on housing costs after the first month. I can move us carefully and unpack as I go along so if something ends up not having a proper home I can get rid of it. I'm so excited! The only thing it is missing is a neighborhood pool but we can swim at the JCC since staff gets a membership.

  2. Well, I got the following out of the berries: 9 jars strawberry jam 4 jars strawberry-peach jam 14 quarts of strawberries in sauce 1 gallon zip of hulled whole berries in the freezer Man was I exhausted last night! ha! GLG - we'll have to meet up sometime! Lakemom - you know, it didn't even occur to me because usually auctions are all "once you get the highest bid, it's YOURS, we have no control" etc. If it ever happens again, I'll try - nothing hurts to try, right? I honestly don't know what I would have done with another flat - but we did pay for it. <grump>

  3. The interview went well. I will just see where it leads. The Intellectual Property deals with patent prosecution and litigation, trademarks and copyrights. I was specifically talking to the head of the patent prosecution team. This is an area I want to get into, so a big first step meeting other people in this field.

  5. Thanks you, your all very sweet to say that! It's possible there is a neighbor kid that could mow the lawn, I have never seen or heard of kids doing that around here, they would actually have a good market right around my Moms house, there are a lot of older people in the vicinity of her house. The other issue is they would need to haul their parents mower to her house, her mower is at the trailer. We are willing to take care of it for now, but if it doesn't sell after a couple of months she may need to hire a service and we are definitely not going to do snow removal if it doesn't sell by winter. My sister and her DH are actually going to do the mowing this weekend so that is a welcome break. The funny thing about this, is my sisters son works for a landscape company, I don't know if they do small scale jobs like hers would be, but I find it ironic.

  6. If it ever happens again, go back and report it to the cashier. The one I attend has refunded my money before when I had 6 dozen eggs taken out of the frige despite having a sold sign on them. From then on I either carry them around with me or put them in the van (if its not too crazy hot that day).

  8. From what you've written in the past, I thought you worked in Madison. We try to go to the Saturday market there about twice a summer.

  10. Here are the two outfits & headband I made yesterday (the white onesie was store bought; I added the skirt; but the other dress was "from scratch.") https://www.flickr.com/photos/modqstudio/14341257487/in/photostream/ Here's the baby quilt I made a couple of months ago: https://www.flickr.com/photos/modqstudio/14341164958/in/set-72157644999685737

  11. So, we closed on 6/9, and we are slowly settling into the house. I am overwhelmed, but I am just taking things one at a time. The house is gorgeous...lots of work, but it is just so pretty here. We just need more time to get things done. I haven't exactly figured out how I am supposed to work two jobs and take care of a house and 10 acre property (and have babies), but we'll figure it out. Shortly after we closed, it hit me that I was approaching our goals the wrong way (repairs, 6 mo efund, 15% to retirement, fund several sinking funds, major repairs/renovations, then pay off house). I realized that instead my #1 goal is to pay off the house in 5 years. How we will do that, I'm not exactly sure. I know that it will involve replacing existing cars with beaters, keeping our lifestyle way way down, making peace with the negatives of the house instead of renovating, and just staying focused (and employed!). So the new order is -Repairs, appliances, etc. Just the bare minimum this house needs to be functional (and pretty) lol. We do need some furniture. -6 month efund -15% to retirement -minimal sinking funds. I am in the process of making a spreadsheet of our appliances, roof, etc of expected life and replacement cost to get an idea of how much we will need. - PAY OFF HOUSE IN 5 YEARS. So, that's my new goal. Just putting it out there.

  12. I would greatly appreciate prayers and warm wishes for today. I have an interview with the Assistant Vice President of the Intellectual Property Department at a very reputable company in San Antonio. I have been waiting for an opportunity like this, and I don't want to mess it up. Or make a fool of myself . Thanks!
