Hanging head in disappointment, even with all my enthusiasm, we will not be able to fullfil my ambitious challenge of getting house paid off by the end of this year. It was so hard to make it the top priority when I couldn't get my DH on board. Then our DD had our first grand child and the flood gates of my heart opened up and visiting her has now become my priority. Downside is she lives 20 hours away from me, so that means expensive airplane rides are now a part of my life. Thankfully the
I've been a little freaked out lately. My sister, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a lump and let it go for far to long before going to see a doctor. When she finally went they said it was stage 2 breast cancer. After many tests and scans we found out the cancer had metastasized to her bones, spine and other areas and she is considered stage 4. All this news happened in a matter of just 3 weeks time. So it has been a lot to take in in a short period of time. It has been
I work our budget with money earned from the previous month, I guess this would be "YNAB style". So on August 1st, I can essentially pay out all our bills, expenses and make any saving deposits. I was able to pay $1500 towards our mortgage payment, the current approx balance is $17863. and change. The day after I made our August payment we received our deposit back from the hall we rented for our DD's wedding and a rebate from our dogs meds. I had decided all these types of snowflakes would
As we near the end of July I have a good idea of what our August payment will look like. How much extra we could pay was greatly relying on the final costs from the wedding. I'm also working with, as per usual, a spouse that tends to just be along for the ride without really any input or enthusiasm towards budgeting. I can't cut to drastically into our lifestyle and still have him even semi onboard.
I didn't have grand expectations for this first payment, there are a lot of areas I just
I'm putting this out here in LLNOE land in hopes it will keep me motivated and accountable. I am challenging myself to pay off our mortgage by December 2015. There were 2 milestones this year, I turned 50 and we will be in our house for 20 years this month. So I have strong feelings that if I can get our mortgage gone in 2015 it would be the cherry on top!! It really should have been gone, we originally took out a 20 year mortgage but just prior to finding DR we had refinanced and that put o
Not to wish our DD's special day away, but I am looking forward to no longer being in the planning, prepping and paying stage that this big day requires. I think we have done a pretty good job keeping expenses down, this is mainly due to keeping the guest list small.
We finalized the menu with the caterer and due to our choices our per plate amount was lowered by about $1.50 a plate.
We have made some adjustments to some of the flower choices to bring costs down there.
Back in September I recommited to getting healthy and losing weight. I no longer eat grains or sugar and eat very low carb. What I eat are veggies, cheese, meats, eggs and good healthy fats. It seemed at first it would be costly but as time went by I discovered that I eat very little day to day, often one or 2 small meals a day, with no hungar pains what so ever. That's what good healthy fats do for you!!! I have also seen good health improvements. Gone are the antidepressants, asthma inh
We are finally done with our bathroom remodel. I could not be happier with how it turned out. The work is beautiful, I'm so glad we had professionals do a lot of it. We ran into electrical and plumbing issues that added to the cost, but we did some work ourselves to offset those expenses. I don't have the final bill from BIL and I haven't tallied up all our receipts yet. I want to enjoy it a bit longer before the reality sets in with just how over budget we may have gone. Here are the pics
Just popping in to show our most recent progress. We have been busy busy this weekend getting our part done so we can once again have the toilet installed. I feel terrible complaining about having to run to our basement to use the bathroom, but it is getting old. Total first world problem!!
The "crew", got everything done up to where we step in to prime ceiling and walls, paint ceiling and walls, and install the flooring. This job is made much easier with nothing else in the room to pain
Apparently a small bathroom remodel is still a lot of work. Our BIL's guys are still here doing their thing. The plumbing was a bit of a mess and extra work. Even though the plumbing was there for 2 sinks it came up through the floor in the middle of the the vanity as did the drain, so it all got moved into the wall.
There was some framing that needed to get done and the walls needed to be squared up before drywalling could be started. That's where we are now. We are still without a t
The guys are here to start putting our bathroom together! I have a final before pic and will add progress pics as they come!!!
I snuck a pic of the guys!! Busy at work!!!
So here is all I have to show for all the work the guys had to do. There was a lot of electrical and plumbing to take care of to get to this point. The first is our shiney white tub/shower enclosure. They had to put down a cement base to put the tub on, the floor wasn't level. So glad we had someone else do this
I have all my pics on my iPad and can only post them in this section so I will do a new post as we move along.
The following pics are with the walls demo'd to the studs, nothing to exciting. This is where we have been stopped at for a couple weeks. We are waiting for the shower stall to come in which should be today!!!! I told DH to call his brother to see what we can do to prepare for the install. If he can definitly be here on Thursday for the install we could go ahead and get the ol
Since everyone seems to enjoy before and after pics I thought I'd share our bathroom remodel project. I have waited 20 years to do this room, we've painted, several times and replaced the original floor to perk the room up over the years but this is a whole gut and remodel job.
When we bought the house it had knoty pine wainscoting set in a '70's style diagonal that ran half way up on one wall. you can see a peek of it in the 3rd pic, and behind the toilet it ran vertically. After livin
Inspired by Zaga, I worked on a decluttering project myself. Since both our DD's have now moved out we have 2 spare bedrooms. One of the rooms was going to be an office/ craft room, but I never actually did crafts in there. So we decided after we needed to get a new mattress set for ourselves that we would just use both rooms as guest rooms and one of the rooms has double duty and is also an office for us. I still use one of the closet to store decorative items, craft supplies and gifts in w
I am driving myself crazy with the budget. We have 2 seperate checking accounts with our CU. A main checking where all our money is deposited. From there I transfer funds to several and I mean several different savings account and a seperate checking account. Everything except groceries gets paid or withdrawn from this account. The other checking is for our grocery spending, this I like, it works out good for us because it allows DH to buy items as needed.
What I'm finding to be a hu
My Mom's house was on the market for, what, maybe 2 weeks tops and it has sold!!!!! She got $72K, was asking $74.9K. Which is about what the realtor thought it would go for. It is a young family that bought it, which makes me happy. We kind of figured it would be a family as it is on the big side for just 2 people or a single.
We only live about 5 blocks from my Mom's house, so it will be fun to watch what the new, young, owners do with it. I kind of know the person who bought it, sm
She had 2 realtors give her appraisals she actually went with the one who had come in with a lower listing amount. This realtor has a better reputation, she is the one we had used when we purchased our home 19 years ago. She has been there to take pics and get measurements, etc. I haven't seen the listing show up on their site yet but it's only been 4 days.
We helped my sister move the last of the furniture out of the house, it was gifted to her by my Mom. We have access to a larger tru
This is where things stand now with my Mom's house. She has talked to 2 separate realtors and they have both got back to her with numbers. Realtor #1 would put the house on the market at $74K, realtor #2 came in at $76.5K. So pretty close and also close to what my Mom thought it would be worth. She is going to make her decision on who she will list with by Monday(7/14). Realtor #1 thought the house looked pretty decent and very clean and her only suggestion was to paint the back door. Rea
We call " Moving Mom"!!! A few weeks back, I had announced the we were D O N E! I guess I should have said mostly done. We still had to bring all the crap we hauled to the garage to the dump, another 1200 lbs of junk!!! I just cannot believe there was still that amount of junk left to haul. There was also about 8 or so items that we brought to the reStore. That was completed on Friday. We finally asked at the dump place and they have a drop off once a month, for hazardous waste, gas cans,
We called it a wrap at my Mom's house. All the painting and work she wanted done is done. I was scrapping the bottom of the paint cans to get her closet painted only had enough for the walls, the trim is still yellow, but I'm done!!! If she wants more done it will not be by myself or DH. We hauled every last bit of stuff out to her garage, which was so much more then we thought. She can now have a cleaning crew get in there and do their thing.
Technically we still have to, haul away
It been sometime since I have updated my progress with helping my Mom with her downsizing, move and getting her house ready for sale. She has pretty much settled into her new place. Most boxes have been unpacked except her sewing room. We hung her pictures and some decor. Her new couch was just delivered the end of last week. She will eventually replace curtains in at least the LR and her BR to match her stuff.
Right now she wants us to concentrate on getting her house ready for sale.
It's been a long haul, but she is finally at her new home!! The big move was on Monday, but prior to that I had hauled a few car loads of items and got some things put away. On Monday we borrowed a delivery truck from work and had my nephew and DD's BF do the heavy lifting. Then along with my sister and DH we got everything moved. On Tuesday my sister went over early and started unpacking items, I got done with work early and headed over to help. We were able to get pretty much everything
We are getting down to the wire to my Moms move to her new home. She signs the papers on Monday the 28th! It still hasn't sunk in that she is leaving the place that I called home since I was about 9 years old!!
DH and I went over there Friday, she had packed up the bulk of her bedroom. So I helped her finish that up. While we were there we went through her garage, we are getting her snow blower!! DH was the one who did her snow blowing for her over the years. It came at a good time
We are going to start the actual packing of the items that will need to be moved with her. She will be moving in about 2-3 weeks. We will start in her kitchen get everything packed except what she will actually use daily. This should amount to a couple of plates, bowls, glasses, utensils and a pan or 2. Most of her occasionally used items through out the house are packed. It will also give me a chance to see what kind of progress she has made in her bedroom!!
It will be interesting to
With our temps getting into the 50's over the last week and our snow rapidly disappearing, it seemed that spring was finally here!!! I decided I would transition my closet from winter to spring/summer. It needed a good cleaning out anyway so Friday morning I cleared the closet completely out. I don't have a huge wardrobe, everything fits into my closet and it's not a walk in one either, but I do have a hanging rod, some shelving along one side. I do not have a dresser, this is it, so the win
