So far, so good

Raeanna is on her third day back at school and so far, I think things are improving greatly.   First, I have to say, she did say this weekend she didn't want to go back to school. This was the first time she has ever said that. I asked her why and she said that it was hard to follow directions and that she was afraid to pull a card (she is referring to the class management technique of having green cards, yellow cards, and red cards-green is good, yellow is warning, red is bad-you get the id

Getting back to homeschooling

This will probably be a bit rambly. Or a lot rambly lol.   I just don't know what to do.   What I DO know is that I don't feel this school is working for Raeanna at this time. I know I don't like the way they are teaching reading, I don't like the math curriculum, I don't like how there's so little time for the other subjects. I know she could be learning more. I know her report card had all S grades except for one, and I know why the reading grade was a U. I know I don't like ALL the

well, there you go!

So since this is my bog i can say whatever I want right? Obviously i have been part of a somewhat drama filled post recently. And, while i said thst the opinions of others are fine and i did respond and defrnd myself somewhat, since this here is my blog i will say and address what i feel like.   There was a particular line about "kangaroo meat,....and gourmet meals at home." i want to point that out...AT HOME. DH and I havent been out to eat together in MONTHS. And, while we have totally p

Drama

Ugh. I have started this post several times but it always ends up being long. And there's no way to explain everything without adding lots of details that just add more drama.   Basically...there's family drama with my brother and there's drama with my oldest kid and both situations came up at CJ's brithday party this weekend.   Can you believe that baby CJ is THREE?!?!? Not so baby no more. Yesterday was his actual birthday and his party was Saturday. Some family came and he had a blas

How could I POSSIBLY be considering homeschooling

I am a big advocate of public schools, and schools in general. I think the school setting teaches a lot about life. I think there are things about having other authority figures in a kids life, having negative influences around, yes, negative, and the group setting that are important to a kids development.   On a more personal level, i specifically chose this house and area because of the district. I didnt have many options and this was the best one, and i did research quite a bit.   T

Freezer inventory

I just took a full inventory of my freezer. My mom wanted an exact total on how many pounds of beef we got (I had rounded down a bit the first time, she wanted exact numbers) so since I had to go back and count the whole thing anyway, I counted everything else.   Beef-a total of 55lbs (after using 2lbs of ground beef the other day for sloppy joes) 2 soup bones 1 pkg of 4 cube steaks 3 porterhouse 3 Tbones 3 pks short ribs 2 bone in chuck roasts 1 beef brisket 1 prime rib roast 1 sir

Raeanna's homework, again

This kid's homework is stressing me out.   Today she has-   1 math facts practice page, there are 20 basic math addition facts 1 regular math worksheet. Both this and the above facts page are from the Saxon Math curriculum.   A total of FIVE stories to read from their classroom reading books, plus the "words to know" vocabulary page for each. Each story has 5 vocabulary words that are supposed to be the "sight" words for the week. Four of the stories are past stories, one is the story

Well that would be all we need now

We are FINALLY all feeling better. Some lingering coughs, particularly in the morning, and yesterday, CJ had a little bit of a tummy issue, but other than that, we are doing well.   I just got a call from the school nurse. Danika might have been exposed to Chicken Pox. It wasn't a kid in her class, but a kid in her class was in speech therapy at the same time as the pox infected kid. Dani Lee has been vaxed, but hasn't received her last dose yet.   Now, Chix Pox doesn't scare me, all my

My own September Grocery accountability

I kept meaning to post this but we have been so busy.   I want to only spend $400 this month on groceries. For me groceries includes all non food/household items like toiletries, tp, trash bags, etc. As I have posted before, I have a lot of meat in my fridge, and I am trying to eat out of the pantry and freezer as much as possible this month.   Anyway, as I said, my goal is $400. Our budget is $600, I want to put back the other $200 into savings/bs2.   Week 1:   Meijer: $74 and chang

Tired of illnesses

At least one person has been sick in our house every day since the start of the school year. And myself personally, I was sick for over a week then was well for a few days and am now sick again. First is was pink eye, then something else, and now a regular old cold. Raeanna was out of school for an entire week last week, and that was on top of getting sick the first week of school. CJ was sick for a while, Dani Lee is the one who gave me pink eye....*sigh*   I am tired of being sick, and t

What's going on at my house right this moment.

At my house right now...   My DH is sick. He's sitting on his chair, wrapped in a blanket, researching something on his laptop, for some software he recently installed.   Raeanna is also sick. She is sitting on the couch, in warm jammies, quietly coloring in a book on a tv tray.   Dani Lee is sitting in her rocking chair doing a 48 piece puzzle by herself. Not asking for help, not getting frustrated with it.   I am still recovering from being sick, and planning my menu for September,

No yard sale, and other stuff

So....I posted that I was going to do a yard sale. But I didn't. The reason is that pink eye is making it's way through our house. Actually, I think it's pink eye AND some other cold like illness.   CJ has been boogery off and on since school started. He gets every single thing the girls bring home, even if they don't really show symptoms. I hope that means that once he goes to school his immune system will be nice and strong lol. Anyway, early last week, really, late the week before, h

Its a new week, ready set go!

It's sunday, start of a new week.   Menu- Breakfasts: Apple latkes, twice baked breakfast potatoes, banana muffins, cereal (x2), oatmeal waffles, and then french toast.   Lunches: quesadillas, grilled cheese, pasta salad, cucumber tuna salad, raviolis, mac & cheese, salsa chicken soup   Dinners: pork chops, lamb steaks, shrimp fajitas, spaghetti, jambalaya pasta, deep dish grilled pizza, honey pineapple chicken   I have that all planned out with side dishes, and which days and such,

Feeling a bit overwhelmed

So, in addition to all my posts on the house, and in addition to the mess with the van, school has started here. It's a bit overwhelming.   Dani Lee is only in preschool, and she's only there 2.5 hrs. But she's in the special needs preschool for her developmental delays. As such, she has "homework." It's nothing super long or serious, just..."here are some activities we would like you to do with your kid this week, they align with the therapies she's getting." They aren't *REQUIRED* but t

Garden, van, house

Or rather, House, Van, Garden   We are FINALLY getting some more showings. We had a total of 4 showings in July, counting when DH showed the house lol. Of those, 1 said it was in their top 4, but we never heard anything. Obviously the folks DH showed around didn't leave feedback since it wasn't a scheduled showing. The 3rd never left feedback. I called my realtor, he called their realtor, but there was still no feedback. The last left good feedback, in that it mentioned two minor negativ

Feeling Ok

I posted a big old vent last week. I am feeling better.   The SUN has come out. I am SO happy to see it. It has rained a few times, but mostly overnight. My back yard is FINALLY drained out and I can send the kids back there and all they come in with is sand and not covered in mud. Just a few days ago, I called them in for lunch, only to discover CJ had SAT in the mud puddle, and used a scooper from the water table to pour mud over his head. But no more, it's dried out. No more mud all

How I am spending my day today.

Our washer quit working. In the middle of a cycle. In the middle of a cycle of diapers. It won't drain or spin. Online google research shows the most likely problem is a $25 lid switch assembly. It doesn't appear to be difficult to put in. So we ordered that.   In the meantime however, I have a washer full of dirty gross water and diapers. We bought a small drill powered pump to pump out the water, but it's not working. So I get to go take it back, get a refund, buy a new pump, then o

Garden!

Well, it's producing more than many of my previous attempts, and with the boxes, there are substantially fewer weeds. We are for sure doing raised beds at our next house. Once we are in someplace permanent and ours, we are going to do a LARGE raised bed garden.   We are getting things out that we can use. And we have lost some other things, which is sad.   First, some pics...   Stuff we are getting   Tomatoes   Green Beans and Onions. The onions were supposed to be bigger but t

Venting

I am sick and tired of this crappy weather. Raining nearly every day. Even when it doesn't rain, the ground is so saturated, it's taking FOREVER to dry up. And this stupid yard is so flat the water drains like nowhere, the yard is like a freaking swamp. Which is of course breeding more bugs. I am sick of the bugs. We bugbombed the house, and it DID help in the house. But the bugs are starting to get back in when the doors open. At least they are dying when they get inside. But outside...they are

No insightful title

Just don't have any kind of real title. lol   House update: I posted in the forums about the showing we had and the showing DH did lol. Nothing's come of them yet. Open house is this weekend. I have been playing phone tag with the realtor trying to get some details on that. I will call him, get his voicemail, then go do something with the kids outside, come back and see he called, return the call and get voicemail again. I think my sister is going to make some cupcakes for the open hous

random updates

Well, construction on the house is finished. Done, paid for, over with. The check I sent them has been cashed, I have a receipt stating everything is paid for, yay! So, that's one hurdle down.   DH's car is currently in pieces in the garage. It's been that way for a week and a half and he's been taking the van to work. Which means I have been stuck at home with the kids all day every day and I am about to go crazy. No splash pad, no library, and to top it off it rained quite a bit last w

More good feedback

We had a showing on Wednesday, and got the feedback this morning. Said the home showed well (this is my new favorite line) and that the client liked the layout. They were concerned about the steep driveway and the "feel of the neighborhood." The driveway is pretty steep, some of the trucks involved in our repair efforts actually slid down it because they didn't put their parking break on. But, not something we can change. I am not sure what they mean by "feel of the neighborhood" but since

Weekly Update-May goals

Of course, a brief house update as well.   Dh and I went out on Saturday. We painted the front door, mowed the lawn, ran the vacuum, tried to replace the lock but the one we bought didn't work, so we sprayed WD40 all over the inner workings of the lock we had and put it back. We also wiped up the door jams (which were NOT dirty, as in, no dirt comes off on the wipe. I think they were just seeing a slightly different shade of paint, plus swept up the porch and cleaned up the tree bed in fron

People are weird sometimes

So, the listing for the house is up, we had the first showing today. I don't have the live link yet, but I will share. I am going to ask that he re-do a couple of pics but otherwise, much better than the previous one.   Anyway, first showing was today, the next one is tomorrow. We received feedback on this first one, which just makes me want to shake people. The first comment was "backyard doesn't feel very private" Which it doesn't because there is only a single tree, which was a sapling

Weekly Update-May Goals

Quick update on the house first. If you have read any of the posts on the forum you know my construction guys are FINALLY finished and we have a sign in the yard. I still don't have a live listing though. There were some discussions regarding initial list price and length of contract that we worked out over the weekend. DH and I signed the papers on Sunday morning, but I haven't gotten a notice that we are live yet. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we have an offer in 2 weeks. That's w
