Junes Wants\Needs list...

I have $103 to cover all household spending for the rest of the month *sigh*     Here are the things that are either needed or wanted for this month. Would love some help prioritizing them....   *More time on my cell phone. I have 70minutes left on my prepaid but I ran out of service days. Phone is useless without the service days.   *Swim suits for the toddlers. Ideally I would like to get new suits for everyone but the toddlers don't have anything at all to wear. (would be rash guards a

Large Family Picnic

I just wanted to thank you all for encouraging me to go to the large family picnic yesterday. It was so much fun! It was wonderful to be surrounded by like minded families for a change. We actually had one of the smaller families, not often a family of 8 can say THAT! The kids loved it, actually Lacy (who is three) cried the whole two hours home because she wanted to go back.   I ended up making sloppy joe mac, corn, and brownies for the picnic and didn't get a single bite...all my dishes we

"Simplified list of Bible stories to read to your children each year"

I want to start doing more Bible readings with my kids but I am terrible at navigating through the Bible and finding the correct sections I am looking for. I found this "simplified list of Bible stories to read to your children each year". I have not looked through ALL of them (then are 9 printed pages!) but I thought I would share   http://marymission.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-to-start-reading-bible-to-your.html

The Bible cover to cover in 90 days...

Anyone want to join me? I am on day two, but will probably finish faster than 90 days since I plan to do a section in the morning and a section in the evenings.   http://www.thebrooknetwork.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/BibleIn90Days.pdf

Random "where we are at" post ;)

Things seem to be settling down here these days.   I am working harder at having "theme" weeks to cut down on food waste...for example this week I made up 2lbs of black beans and some taco seasoned chicken (first time making my own seasoning mix, it was yummy btw). Then I used them to make chicken chili, quesadillas, and the scraps and leftovers to make southwestern baked potatoes. We also have started doing a set meal plan template;   Mondays: Vegetarian Tuesdays: Meat Wednesdays: Leftove

Getting out there

I know several of you have suggested that I need to get out there and do more stuff outside of my home and children. Dh and I have been talking about it and have agreed with you all   Just thought I would let you know I have joined or am in the process of joining:   * A once a month craft night with other military spouses * The Not So Silent Ranks, where military spouses get together once a month to go up to Trenton and feed the homeless * The women's group at the base church, meets onc

Frustrated.

When does this get easier? I mean...does it EVER get easier? We have been doing this plan for almost 4yrs now and I am not feeling the financial peace. We are so far in the red this month it isn't even funny and it is only the 10th! I made cuts and got everything to balance but I am just sick of feeling like this. I am sick of seeing all that red on my budget. After all the bills are paid this month we have $16 left in our account. That is $16 keeping us from overdrawing. (Not counting the FFEF

No new stuff. Fourth week of March

I have learned a lot about how to handle kids school projects without buying any new "stuff" this month! This week we had to make a diorama for my 6yr old's school project. The diorama had to show her animal in it's natural habitat. I think we did pretty well without buying a thing! This week we also got a letter home from school asking for 12 plastic eggs filled with candy for the same child's class. I was thinking ahead for once and ordered 30 used plastic eggs off of ebay earlier in the month

Scratch that...new plan

Hubby and I have been talking and he has finally agreed that we need a larger vehicle. The kids are SO squeezed into our current SUV that it is not even funny and there is literally a foot of storage space in the back (no room for groceries or anything else).   I have priced out 12 passenger vans and we are looking at a used vans in the $15,000 range which would be around 50k in mileage.   So the plan NOW is:   Continue to fund my roth for this year till completed. Then start saving for 1

Organizing the paper chaos ~crafting~

Posted by -mimi- at 7:46 AM   I didn't realize how much paper is attached to children. They are constantly bring home mountains of paper from school. Between graded work, announcements, and letters from the teachers it feels like I am drowning in paper. My counters were buried in it and I was forever losing things I needed. Several ladies on my mom's forum suggested an inbox system for the kids. I loved the idea and was off to search pinterest for ideas. I saw several inboxes made out o

The plan for the rest of the year (2013)

Whenever I write something down here it tends to get shredded in a matter of seconds (little man loves to rip paper up) so I thought I would put it here where I know I can find it.   The plan for the rest of the year:   BS 4: Dh's TSP at 15% for the rest of the year =$5,500 for the year My roth: Currently at $2,300 + $800 snowball for end of March beginning of April +$2,400 per diem pay from dh's current trip $5,500 and fully funded by April 15th (3 mths ahead of

Prayers appreciated.

We just got "the call"....I can't go into detail as you all know. I will just say that by this time tomorrow my husband will be gone and we don't know when he will be coming home. Please pray for his safety and he travels to a dangerous location, for my children's understanding, and for my strength.   Thank you all.

Baby Meg's birth story

Just thought I would share little bits birth story.   I wasn't due till Jan 29th but on the morning of Jan 21st I was sleeping in while dh took care of getting the kids breakfast and out the door to school. I rolled over and realized my water was broken. I jumped out of bed so I wouldn't get the sheets wet and well you know what happened then. It was a mess. I just sort of stood there and looked down like REALLY?! My mother wasn't due to fly in till the next day and we had no one to watch the

Spring cleaning meets the No new stuff challenge...

As you can see from my previous posts we are in the middle of a Spring Cleaning spree here. Which of course means I am finding lots of "stuff" that hasn't been used in a long time. While cleaning out my laundry room I found a bunch of hair bows I made a while back. While trying to figure out what to do with them I remembered my girls used to have a ribbon hair bow holder (that they destroyed).       Which got me to thinking about a ribbon covered wreath I had started to work on for Christm

2013 no new "stuff" challenge update post

X posting from my blog   2013 No new "stuff" challenge: ~I have been so tempted to do some shopping for "Stuff" but so far I am doing well and holding out.   **While scrubbing our bathroom this afternoon I noticed that our shower curtain was all "yucky" and told my husband that we needed to buy a new one. However I remembered this challenge and started thinking how to get a new one without buying one new. Then it hit me....our shower curtain is a sort of composite fabric material and I can

2013 no new "stuff" challenge

x posting from my blog   In true over achiever fashion I am up for a new challenge to add to the ones I am already undertaking.   This new challenge? To go one year (365 days) without buying any new "stuff".   Sounds kind of daunting doesn't it?   Here is the breakdown of the particulars:   ~Consumables are allowed purchases. These include: *Food *Diapers (although I would like to use my own cloth diapers as much as possible) *Light bulbs *Cleaning supplies *School supplies for th

Freezer cooking ~Day 1~

Okay today started day 1 of my freezer cooking insanity. I spent the morning at Aldi and Costco getting all my supplies. Total spent: $627 that covers all the little things we were out of here, all the breakfast and snack supplies, and the 70 dinners I am making.   So far I have gotten the following in the freezer: 11 strawberry and banana smoothies 5 dozen apple muffins 27 c. of red/pink/black beans 3 roasts with veggies   I also have 25lbs of ground beef defrosting in the fridge and a

And baby makes 8!

So since my tests are getting more and more positive I thought I would make a list of all the things that we got rid of in Hawaii so that we could make weight for the move to NJ.   -Maternity and nursing Clothes, I have none! -Newborn and up clothes. I have from 12mths and up girl clothes and 6mth and up boys clothes. -Swing -bouncy seat   We also will need to get a larger vehicle. Something that seats 8. We are thinking a suburban. I just ran KBB on my current van and it would sell for a
