Workbook organization on the cheap ;)

I was going a bit batty dealing with the stacks of workbooks everywhere. Soooooo.............I got all crafty.   First off I started with two boxes, the fabric from the twins old crib bumpers, and some spray adhesive.   Once I got the boxes covered in the fabric I added a divider for the big box so that it could be divided by child. Then I made a label for the front with if the contents were for independent work or if they needed to wait for mom....     Okay my OCD is back in prop

What's up with us

Let's see....   Dh started his new job last week. He is miserable. He is the top level of rank on the flightline before the jump to "the office". They are under manned and he is pretty frustrated. He is applying for every special duty available in an attempt to move to a new base.   I have been on my new medications for almost a week. The beta blocker has dropped my resting heart rate from 100 to 60. I may still need another medication to drop my blood pressure as well. The anti depressant

Well Crap

Can I just have a mini tantrum?   DH isn't even home from his current six month deployment and he already has orders for another month away after he gets home.     We will be fine. We are always fine. I would just like to have my husband home for a few months straight.   Grumbling over. I have an entire house to clean and pack by myself and a kindergarten graduation party to host in three hours.   Sigh.

Vacation Chronicles

We have made it to KY to drop off the kids with my parents. Oh the stories I could tell. We drove from 8pm to 8am. There were deserted gas stations, women with tire irons, porta potties in the woods, gas stations with bars on every window and door, etc. It wasn't dull.   Today dh and I head to TN to check onto our chalet. I am flat out exhausted, this should be an interesting vacation.

Update on Son

Early intervention went as expected. He is behind in several categories of development (communication, adaptive, and social) and has several red flags for autism. He will begin therapy when we get home from our vacation in September.   He sees an audiologist on the 31st to rule out any hearing problems (I am positive that will be normal).   Also waiting on the appointment for the developmental pediatrician. I have to mail all the forms to them and then they will set an appointment. They wer

Update on our lives...

I wrote this up for another forum I am apart of and realized I never really talked about what went on while we were in Jersey packing out so I thought I would share it here as well:   It has been a while since I have been able to come online and really talk so I thought I would post an update on how we are doing.       At the end of March my husband deployed for 6 mths. Two days later the kids and I closed out our house in Jersey and drove to Kentucky to stay on the family farm. We moved i

Update

Just a little update.   I heard back from the IRS. I was able to talk them down from $5,000 to $600. I could probably talk them down another $20 but I am sick and can't bring myself to do it. I wrote the check and will mail it out on Monday.   My husband's government travel card has issued us a refund check for $400. The check is in the mail. I plan to use it to refill the FFEF used by the IRS.   I talked to my husband and he wants to sign the one year lease and then reevaluate when he get

Today's update :)

Today has been a busy day here   Went thrift store shopping this morning...and found the outfit for little bit for our photo shoot ($1 ). It is an 18mth top but will fit her like a dress and work perfectly. It was hanging right on the end of the rack and just jumped out at me. I snatched it off that rack so fast I am surprised the rack didn't fall over   Also found swim suits for the three youngest girls today! I actually got 4 suits because I was not sure if my smallest twin would fit a

The plan for the rest of the year (2013)

Whenever I write something down here it tends to get shredded in a matter of seconds (little man loves to rip paper up) so I thought I would put it here where I know I can find it.   The plan for the rest of the year:   BS 4: Dh's TSP at 15% for the rest of the year =$5,500 for the year My roth: Currently at $2,300 + $800 snowball for end of March beginning of April +$2,400 per diem pay from dh's current trip $5,500 and fully funded by April 15th (3 mths ahead of

The month to come. My to do lists :)

I figure I have 3-4 weeks before the house hop to our new house on base (current tenants vacate on the 28th). I just finished the majority my medical to do list today (Upcoming tests in the next 4 weeks: Gastric emptying for my failure to thrive little one, Sedated MRI for my son, EEG for my oldest daughter. All with follow up dr's appts to check results) so my free time can now be spent on working on the move instead of on hold with dr's offices.   I am so overwhelmed I can't even think strai

The first week jinx

I swear we are jinxed. This is dh's first week gone again and our first week back at school. The military wives have a saying that the first week dh is gone anything that can go wrong will.   Nothing is going right and we are a mess. Yesterday we called off school when we literally almost died from carbon monoxide poisoning. The alarm kept going off but I thought it was the smoke detector (new house). I kept turing it off because I thought it was malfunctioning. When I started getting incredib

The countdown begins

We got the call that the deployment has been moved up by a significant amount. We are officially in our countdown window. I am not loving this   Tonight is my scheduled "fall apart night" Dh is at work and I am about to put all the kids to bed. I plan to have a long hard cry and get it out of my system. I can't keep walking around fighting back tears all day long. Then it is on to the planning phase.   You know what I hate the most? That I have a routine in place for this.   Six months.

The Bible cover to cover in 90 days...

Anyone want to join me? I am on day two, but will probably finish faster than 90 days since I plan to do a section in the morning and a section in the evenings.   http://www.thebrooknetwork.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/BibleIn90Days.pdf

The benefits of complaining.

Just had to update on the hotel hell situation. I emailed the corporate Extended Stay hotel on Saturday listing my experience with their Mobile hotel and asking for a refund on my entire stay. This morning I logged on to my bank account to find that they had refunded me $854.56 exactly what we paid. I am now at least not livid with the hotel chain anymore and instead just livid with that particular hotel. Hey we might even use the certificate we have for a free stay at some point.   My hubby

Spring cleaning meets the No new stuff challenge...

As you can see from my previous posts we are in the middle of a Spring Cleaning spree here. Which of course means I am finding lots of "stuff" that hasn't been used in a long time. While cleaning out my laundry room I found a bunch of hair bows I made a while back. While trying to figure out what to do with them I remembered my girls used to have a ribbon hair bow holder (that they destroyed).       Which got me to thinking about a ribbon covered wreath I had started to work on for Christm

Spiritually/Emotionally Broken

*Background. My son is autistic. He is an aggressive self harmer who will do anything he can to hurt himself and if you stop him he will then try everything he can to hurt you. He has already given himself brain damage and now has a violent hand tremor from his head slamming behavior.   Today was his first day at a special needs daycare. The medical social worker and behvioral therapist thought it would be good for him to go for 6 hours twice a week. It was meant to be a warm up for the privat

Son's therapy update

Just thought I would update on how our therapy meeting went today.   They are recommending 2 hours a week of behavioral therapy and 1 hour a week of Occupational therapy a week. That is quite a bit more than the 1 hour of therapy my oldest daughter needed at this age.   Couple odds and ends. They feel that he would benefit from an indoor swing, something that holds him tight. I know from experience he has to be control of the motion or he will stroke out. So I have been doing some research

So far so good :)

So far we are off to a good start this month. We are on or under budget in all categories which is great   I have also been so blessed to have some people contact me to do some custom quilting work which is just amazing! I love getting to play around with picking out fabric and making something for other people   I finally managed to get my etsy shop unlocked. Apparently because I had a $0.20 unpaid balance for a year they locked my account. Kicker is every time in that year that I tried t

Scratch that...new plan

Hubby and I have been talking and he has finally agreed that we need a larger vehicle. The kids are SO squeezed into our current SUV that it is not even funny and there is literally a foot of storage space in the back (no room for groceries or anything else).   I have priced out 12 passenger vans and we are looking at a used vans in the $15,000 range which would be around 50k in mileage.   So the plan NOW is:   Continue to fund my roth for this year till completed. Then start saving for 1

School ramblings

Just thought I would share our random school ramblings.   We currently use a mom intense (in regards to non-reading children) literature based program (Sonlight) for our oldest two daughters. With the addition of the twins to the routine our life was about to get very complicated (3 cores) and very expensive ($2,500). I did quite a bit of research (understatement of the decade) and came up with another option. This second option (My Father's World) allowed all of our girls to be in the same "c
