Feel free to skip, I'm having a whine fest over here.
DH was in pretty bad pain last night, he thought it was heartburn or similar, took antacids and such. Didn't work, still in a lot of pain this morning. 1 very long trip to the ER later (yeah, ER on a holiday = bad timing) and he has a tentative diagnosis of gallstones. That comes with a clear fluids diet, pain meds, and anti-nausea meds. Oh, and an ultrasound for a firm diagnosis tomorrow.
Then we get home. There's a smell like
It's minor in the grand scheme of things, but I'm very excited about it. It was my old corset, I had custom made it for myself several pounds and inches ago. It looked fabulous on me back then but no longer, but still had a lot of good life left in it. Sold it for $75, which is about what the materials cost
Recovery from surgery is going great! I will find out Friday the 30th at my follow up appointment what all was done to me and what the next steps are. The scars are already almost healed
I haven't posted one of these charts for awhile. Last year, when I quit my job, we stopped paying extra to the student loan for the rest of the year, but we did manage to almost max out DH's 401-K.
This year we started paying down this final debt again, which reduced what we could put into the 401-K. You can also see a huge drop in February with the tax refund, which was made possible by the severance package I got when I left my job. They withheld 25 of that check, which we pretty much g
I did laundry all day yesterday, and it's a good thing I did! It was thunder storming on and off all day, which I wasn't too concerned about, but around 9 pm I noticed the thermostat glowing red. Furnace/AC was out. At least it wasn't a hot night.
Then around 9:30 pm I noticed a dripping sound in the basement while checking on the laundry. The chimney was dripping and there was a small puddle beside it. So I made a note to tell DH so we could get the chimney capped. No big deal, we've
I'm putting this here because I sort of hate people who complain about their health on facebook all the time, so feel free to ignore me!
I woke up a few weeks ago unbelievably dizzy, I ran into a wall and almost fell down 3 times on the way to the toilet that's like 10 feet from my bed. Went to see a doctor (someone else drove me of course!) that day and was diagnosed with vertigo.
Well, while I was already there the doctor asked me if there was anything else that was concerning me, so
We've been steadily working at this, probably 6 hours a day split into 2 sessions. The dumpster is virtually full, the ceiling and walls are almost completely down, the lower kitchen cabinets are out, lots of miscellaneous junk we had down there has been dismantled and tossed.
But all of that was expected. What was unexpected was DH and I agreed to tear down the bar and the kitchen peninsula! They were made out of glazed bricks, at least the framework of them was. We both thought that th
A mess. We made a mess.
Yes, that's right, it's basement renovation time! DH has a week and a half off between his old job and his new one, so we are in full on tear out the basement mode. Previously we had started removing the floor and ceiling, but were pretty stalled out.
DH still has to work until Wednesday at his old job, and the dumpster comes on Tuesday the 24th. We get to keep it for 1 week until April 1.
Things that will end up in the dumpster:
Sorry, there may not be a before pic of this one. It's pretty impressive how many pairs of shoes, boots, sandals, slippers, and medieval shoes that 2 people can have! We have a fairly large front hall area and it is full to the point of just having enough room to walk down the middle.
I believe that between us we should be able to fill a trash bag with shoes. Then the goal is to have an actual home for them all so they aren't in 5 different closets, the laundry room, my car, the dresser i
If you've seen my siggy since the start of the year, we've only been at 5% to retirement. Well, DH just got a pretty amazing job offer, and we will be able to go right back to 15%+ and still keep up the extra on the SL. So yay for that!
I'm crazy proud of him, he's an expert in his particular field of IT, and it's paying off! He's worked so very hard.
I finally start a new job tomorrow, but it's only part time. I'm still looking for a full time decent paying job, I may have a line on one that's about a 40 minute drive away. It pays enough to make the drive worth it though.
For the part time job, it's low pay and probably 2 days a week, but walking distance from home. It's at a fancy (for this small town anyways) women's consignment shop. I'm also doing a bit of side work making and altering/repairing clothing and costumes. So far it
This week's assignment isn't an issue in our house. We have a pretty nice setup in the kitchen that's out of the way, centrally located, and convenient.
I will focus some on getting more trash taken out of the basement to prepare for our imminent renovation, all DIY. We will probably still need a dumpster for the larger stuff, but anything I can get out of there ahead of time will make the dumpster filling that much easier.
I am, however, still working on scanning all of my recipes int
This one won't be visually very interesting, so there probably won't be any pics. The goal is to get meal plans going, recipes organized, and cookbooks decluttered.
I already do have a recipe box with index cards with a bunch of my favorite recipes on them. I also have a good sized pile of recipe books. Then I use the internet to search for recipes, in particular recipes that will work with my food allergies (dairy and soy are the big ones, then for some reason chamomile which is not usua
This week is the fridge and freezer for decluttering, with a special focus on making sure you have things that you use and use things that you have.
We have 2 fridges and 1 upright freezer. It may seem like a lot for just 2 people, but we use most of the space. One fridge is in our main kitchen and contains daily use things. One fridge is in the basement kitchen, the fridge is our drink fridge plus I sometimes will put larger things in it like a crock full of broth to cool, and the freeze
Better late than never, right? It's been a super busy week, and I'm full of excuses why I didn't do this week. Dad visited from 4 states away, studying for a test (failed by 9 points ), got a nasty cold, blah blah blah, moving on...
It is pantry storage week. We use 5 different cabinets in the kitchen for pantry storage.
1st one is over the microwave, it's very high up and I can't really reach it. DH keeps things there and he also keeps it neat. Mainly filled with crackers, tuna
This is under the sink. It wasn't terrible compared to some of the other areas, but I was sort of appalled that I had 3 gallon jugs of vinegar that were more than half empty! That plus 2 full gallons. What was I thinking?
3 more cabinets to go this week. One is pots and pans, one is above the stove, and one is just the top shelf where I keep the overflow mugs. Well, 4 I suppose, the last is over the fridge. I just didn't want to face all of the mouse droppings up there
I'll just a
Yesterday's mission was the junk drawer. There is more than one place in our house that qualifies, so I just picked the worst one, a little secretary's desk that is near the kitchen. Pics in comments.
I have to say, I expected this one to be really hard, junk drawers are so intimidating! But once I started sorting I found that about 1/3 of the stuff in there had an actual home someplace else in the house, and also there was a good amount of trash.
As a bonus, I went through and tested
The project this week is to declutter kitchen drawers and cabinets, including the dreaded junk drawer, yikes! I'm getting a bit of a head start on this for one cabinet because it is in need of some reconfiguring, which I started today by dismantling. Before and after pics will be in the comments.
This cabinet won't be finished for a few days, I have to wait for a storage tool I bought from Amazon to arrive. Until then!
Try 2, I still can't publish a blog entry from Chrome it seems
I signed up for the e-mails, and am going for it. The first week is to clear off kitchen counters, and we have 2 kitchens so that is a lot of counters!
The main kitchen wasn't too bad since I keep it fairly usable most of the time. I just finished up with that.
Now to the basement, which is a disaster! Clearing off the counters down there and putting all of those things away will make a huge difference in our basement
I just passed the first test, I'm on my way! There are 3 tests for this, then I will be certified to represent people to the IRS for tax audits and issues.
So excited! I plan on studying for the next one and taking it in a few weeks
I have a mess of a house right now. Not only have we just returned from vacation, but we're having a party on Sunday the 24th, so there's a lot to do and a limited time to do it!
Kitchen: (This will be done Sunday morning, because it is in use all the time)
empty counters half done
clean out breakfast nook
remove items on floor to where they belong - shoes, bottles, zip ties, cooler
clean counters, stove, backsplash, sink
remove items on floor to where
I'm waiting to hear back from 2 job interviews. They both said they would call this afternoon, and I'm a bit on pins and needles!
Also, I figured out why DH wanted me to go back to work so badly. I assumed it was just because he was a bit jealous of me having all of this time off. Heinz gave me a generous severance package, so I was not in a hurry at first to look for a new job. Net was just over $13K.
So yesterday I was talking about what I wanted to do with the severance money once
Well, today marks the day. I've been out of work (voluntarily) since May 9th and today I put in my first job application!
I feel sort of exhilarated, it has been a *very* long time since I've job searched. I am very out of practice, but on the flip side I have grown up a lot in the past 7 years as well.
Now I'm off to apply for another! (And probably searching for more after that.) Here's hoping for some interest!
DH has wanted a back deck for some time, he's been saving up for it with his pocket money for over a year now, and the time has come to put it in! This will be in stages, because it's a lot of work to do all at once!
The first stage started this past weekend, pics will be added to the comments as soon as I get them uploaded. It's the space under our living room picture window; the glass block window goes to the kitchen in the basement (we have 2 kitchens), so I'm pleased that the deck won'
We did some cool stuff around the house this weekend, pollen notwithstanding.
We painted 2 swings and an adirondack chair that DH made, then put in a small landing at the bottom of the back steps. The chairs are so very cheerful looking now! And the area the landing was put in was hard to mow.
I just love doing things with my DH.
Pics in comments.
I'm still having trouble with blog posts, hopefully this will work. I'm going to post this, then try putting the pics in the comments.
I planted tons of things today, and other than pulling weeds I should be done until harvesting time, yay!
several herbs - marjoram, parsley, sage, rosemary, lemongrass, catnip, oregano, basil...
zucchini (not in garden, too big!)
spaghetti squash (also not in garden)
