MORE hand me downs!

I know, you all said to stop taking them. My coworker said she had another box of uniform clothes, since Naomi stained so much of her stuff I went ahead and took it. The last box of clothes much of it went to donate, I took some clothing for the girls and a good amount of uniform clothes. Then, I sold most of the uniform clothes that were the wrong style for our school. I only had to do 5 minutes of extra work to sell it and my sweet coworker had car trouble this week so I was happy to surprise

Introductions - Redux

I'm back! After a blogging hiatus (really, I didn't even do more than an intro last time in 2013...) and with the official closing of the TMMO Forums, I am back full-time to reading and posting on this forum. I never really left, still kept up with everyone, but didn't post much. Hoping that will change now that my attention is not divided.   A Recap since 2013 (please see my 2013 intro post for more basic info):   DH and I married almost 5 years ago, September 11th, 2010. We will be celebra

What's going on at my house right this moment.

At my house right now...   My DH is sick. He's sitting on his chair, wrapped in a blanket, researching something on his laptop, for some software he recently installed.   Raeanna is also sick. She is sitting on the couch, in warm jammies, quietly coloring in a book on a tv tray.   Dani Lee is sitting in her rocking chair doing a 48 piece puzzle by herself. Not asking for help, not getting frustrated with it.   I am still recovering from being sick, and planning my menu for September,

The kids are back to school!

And for the first time in 6 years, I'm not back to school!   I was very worried about getting bored. So far I have so much to do, I can't believe how I ever did it all.   Last week was very busy with PTO stuff. This week I did my Sam's club trip in the middle of the day when there was no line, same with Publix. The bills are paid, budget is updated, there is no pile of paperwork just sitting here waiting for me to find time to deal with it. The kids are caught up on dr. appointments. I r

No yard sale, and other stuff

So....I posted that I was going to do a yard sale. But I didn't. The reason is that pink eye is making it's way through our house. Actually, I think it's pink eye AND some other cold like illness.   CJ has been boogery off and on since school started. He gets every single thing the girls bring home, even if they don't really show symptoms. I hope that means that once he goes to school his immune system will be nice and strong lol. Anyway, early last week, really, late the week before, h

New motivation!

The Head of School at Naomi's school was chatting with me about how she wished the school had the Junior Kindergarten class back. Then she offhandedly asked me if I would like to teach it if they got it back! It took me by surprise, I didn't know what to say. I told her I didn't have a teaching degree, I had a degree in Religious Studies. She said she would check to find out if for that age I needed a degree or a license would work.   So, now I have this in the back of my mind at all times, ha

Progress on cleaning out houses

From my thread, I'm cleaning out two houses. I guess I should say I'm totally cleaning out one house and making the other one livable. I wanted to post to keep myself accountable and to have a plan of what needs to be done. Yesterday I got two bedrooms and two baths completely done. The only things in those rooms are what is on the walls, boxes I couldn't lift, and chairs/lamps that need to be taken away. I'm working three days a week so I have two days while the kids are at school. Here's my pl

Prayers for my sister, please!

I've been a little freaked out lately. My sister, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a lump and let it go for far to long before going to see a doctor. When she finally went they said it was stage 2 breast cancer. After many tests and scans we found out the cancer had metastasized to her bones, spine and other areas and she is considered stage 4. All this news happened in a matter of just 3 weeks time. So it has been a lot to take in in a short period of time. It has been

137 days.

It has been 137 days since I have seen my husband. I wish I could snap my fingers and bring him home. I am tired, physically and emotionally. I don't know how single mothers do it...   I miss being able to talk to my best friend. I miss being able to be myself with someone who understands me. Not having to weigh every word I say in case I inadvertently cause world war three. I miss being able to be vulnerable instead of constantly having to be in total control. I can't tell anyone if I am havi

Feeling a bit overwhelmed

So, in addition to all my posts on the house, and in addition to the mess with the van, school has started here. It's a bit overwhelming.   Dani Lee is only in preschool, and she's only there 2.5 hrs. But she's in the special needs preschool for her developmental delays. As such, she has "homework." It's nothing super long or serious, just..."here are some activities we would like you to do with your kid this week, they align with the therapies she's getting." They aren't *REQUIRED* but t

I'm going to see a dr.

That's it - I've broken down - I have an appointment with a psychiatrist today at 3:30.   Of course this psychiatrist is NOT part of my health insurance plan. I called, and looked and searched for someone in my plan. There were a couple - but they are for children only.   I will state this once and now - we need to make mental health care as readily available and affordable as physical health care. I've never looked for mental health care before- and it's ridiculous that it is SO EXPENSIVE a

Headed to Florida... for 34 hours...

A very close friend passed away. It was the mother in a mother/daughter family I have been close to for about 14 years. I hadn't been in touch in a long time and I feel awful about that, I didn't know her cancer had come back because I had been so sick the last couple of months that I hadn't called and they didn't want to stress me out. They know stress aggravates my disease. They assumed she would beat it again. Instead I got a call on Saturday that she had passed away. I didn't know what

2015-11

July flew on by, baby is now a year old, summer break is over, on to new schedules! I'm so glad that we're doing preschool. I'm glad to admit that I'm not a home schooler, not my strength, and that is ok. I tried to be more social for my kids' sakes, but it was wearing me out, stressing me out and I was not in my element. I'm truly happiest when I'm working a little, dabbling in my art, sewing, cooking, being with my family.   I've come to realize that the way I pamper myself and decompre

Garden, van, house

Or rather, House, Van, Garden   We are FINALLY getting some more showings. We had a total of 4 showings in July, counting when DH showed the house lol. Of those, 1 said it was in their top 4, but we never heard anything. Obviously the folks DH showed around didn't leave feedback since it wasn't a scheduled showing. The 3rd never left feedback. I called my realtor, he called their realtor, but there was still no feedback. The last left good feedback, in that it mentioned two minor negativ

August 1

OK, I've spent the afternoon allocating and planning and paying off things. I feel good about some, a little intimidated by others, but I've got to get myself back into a moving forward position instead of this treading water slightly-backward movement.   So, today I paid the air conditioner repair, the pool motor repair, two dentist bills, a doctor bill, a pediatrician bill, and paid some toward two credit cards. After some deposits are made that I'm waiting on, I may be able to apply a littl

.......and we're off! Mortgage payoff month #1(August)

I work our budget with money earned from the previous month, I guess this would be "YNAB style". So on August 1st, I can essentially pay out all our bills, expenses and make any saving deposits. I was able to pay $1500 towards our mortgage payment, the current approx balance is $17863. and change. The day after I made our August payment we received our deposit back from the hall we rented for our DD's wedding and a rebate from our dogs meds. I had decided all these types of snowflakes would

Moving forward

So my ex replied via his attorney - he answered the filing and I now have to fulfill a "Request for Production of Documents". You know what's weird? All of these legal documents are simply "textbook and fill in the blank." - I don't understand why attorneys do not take the time to tailor these documents to the specific case, and get this stuff out of legalese.   I would consider myself to be of average intelligence, and am myself a writer so I should be able to understand these documents witho

July wrap-up

Well my forecast was fairly accurate! I ended July with $1780 net income from the business (after IRA). There was also $290 gross of business income that was paid out to people subbing in for me over last weekend. I ended up having to fly home to NE unexpectedly for 4 days for my grandpa's funeral. I am grateful that I could be there with my entire family, AND that I could find people to cover my clients, AND that the ticket was only $400! (usually plane tickets even in advance are $500-800, so

Freezer inventory

From Friday 7/24/15: I got back from 2 weeks in Panama late Monday - complete with the worst "heat rash" my dr has ever seen and a sprained ankle that I did in the Panama City airport on the way home. I babysat for 10 hours yesterday, so still getting back into my home routine.   Time to do a meal plan and figure out what I need from the grocery store - which led to me doing a freezer inventory Meat Bacon 1 (about 1/2 lb) Beef sausage 1 lb (was 2 but put one in fridge to cook) Black Fore

Made my first Etsy sale!

It's minor in the grand scheme of things, but I'm very excited about it. It was my old corset, I had custom made it for myself several pounds and inches ago. It looked fabulous on me back then but no longer, but still had a lot of good life left in it. Sold it for $75, which is about what the materials cost   Recovery from surgery is going great! I will find out Friday the 30th at my follow up appointment what all was done to me and what the next steps are. The scars are already almost healed

Updates

I finally received my payout from work, they owed me a little less than 2 months pay, but the taxes were higher than usual due to paying me in a lump sum, so the take home covers a bit more than a month's worth of take home pay for me. Since we use YNAB and budget a month ahead, I put the usual take home amount in for August's budget and put the rest into September's budget. (July was funded already with June's deposits). So August is fully funded at our usual amount. September will be the first

Random updates on our lives :-)

I have not heard anything from the realtors we contacted about the houses on jersey being available in September. Now that we have the rough dates it makes more sense to wait till October anyways. December makes the most sense but dh isn't going for that. I made a deal with myself not to look at housing listing till September 15th, no since tempting myself. There is a particular farmhouse available on several acres that looks amazing so I am trying to hold strong.   Dh is doing well. They hav
