The starting gate is in view, for POM(pay off mortgage) challenge.

As we near the end of July I have a good idea of what our August payment will look like. How much extra we could pay was greatly relying on the final costs from the wedding. I'm also working with, as per usual, a spouse that tends to just be along for the ride without really any input or enthusiasm towards budgeting. I can't cut to drastically into our lifestyle and still have him even semi onboard.   I didn't have grand expectations for this first payment, there are a lot of areas I just

It Figures

Well, I just have to laugh.   So, this week, I've had to replace both the compressor in my central air HVAC unit and the motor on my swimming pool pump. One, I thought I could handle without a nervous breakdown. Two, well.... *laugh*   The pool parts and labor were right around $500. I haven't seen a bill for the A/C yet, but I'm expecting a similar outcome there.   Just when I thought I"d get ahead! At least it's a 5-paycheck month! *laugh*

Feeling Ok

I posted a big old vent last week. I am feeling better.   The SUN has come out. I am SO happy to see it. It has rained a few times, but mostly overnight. My back yard is FINALLY drained out and I can send the kids back there and all they come in with is sand and not covered in mud. Just a few days ago, I called them in for lunch, only to discover CJ had SAT in the mud puddle, and used a scooper from the water table to pour mud over his head. But no more, it's dried out. No more mud all

Had a good weekend!

So, I got a bunch of stuff done this weekend - but I might have paid some stupid tax.   I had a storage unit that I opened in December when I moved my stuff out of the house. I've been working on cleaning it out. I FINALLY did that yesterday!   I rented a small truck from U-Haul - the stupid tax part is that I paid the 14.00 for the "insurance" without thinking that my car insurance would probably have covered it. I didn't think about that at all until I told my friends who had come to help

How I am spending my day today.

Our washer quit working. In the middle of a cycle. In the middle of a cycle of diapers. It won't drain or spin. Online google research shows the most likely problem is a $25 lid switch assembly. It doesn't appear to be difficult to put in. So we ordered that.   In the meantime however, I have a washer full of dirty gross water and diapers. We bought a small drill powered pump to pump out the water, but it's not working. So I get to go take it back, get a refund, buy a new pump, then o

Garden!

Well, it's producing more than many of my previous attempts, and with the boxes, there are substantially fewer weeds. We are for sure doing raised beds at our next house. Once we are in someplace permanent and ours, we are going to do a LARGE raised bed garden.   We are getting things out that we can use. And we have lost some other things, which is sad.   First, some pics...   Stuff we are getting   Tomatoes   Green Beans and Onions. The onions were supposed to be bigger but t

Gluten free... Again...

The new medicine I fought so hard for isn't helping me yet. My doctor tested me, yet again, for c diff, they are checking for a vitamin B12 deficiency and checking for signs my pancreas isn't processing stool.   In the meantime, he is worried I may have developed celiac. I've been negative for it before but as my mother has it and I haven't had an endoscopy in a few years it is possible. So, he doesn't want to do another test on me right now and he said I should just try going gluten free.

It's been over a year since

I lost my login information along with the site bookmark so I haven't logged in in quite a while.   I read over my last blog post and I wish I could say a lot has changed. A lot has but a lot has not.   What has not?   - My mother. She is still very much into telling people what to do and it extends into other family members as well. She is still herself in all the same ways.   - My sister M and the driving. That was different and then they lost their car in the most recent flood. Since

Difficult to find a doctor

This is amazing. I'm trying to setup an appointment with a psychiatrist. I have gone to my insurance website and looked up approved doctors on my plan.   I have called THREE - (3) people and left messages - I have heard back from no one. I'm wondering if I should call my GP and get a reference or something. I had no idea this would be so difficult.   In other news. I broke down and took advantage of Amazon Prime - I bought a 7" Fire HD. I'm really excited about it. It'll be great to use to w

July

OK! So, enough of the pity party. Let's get this fixed.   So, I've been concentrating on getting everything lined up to be paid. It may involve some moving money around for a while, especially on the credit cards (ugh...I can't believe I have CC balances...I've NEVER had that....but anyway...). Nothing is past due. I don't need to back-peddle any. I just need to move forward. I've paid off some small amounts that I was holding on to. $200 to a friend and a few smaller medical bills. Now

Venting

I am sick and tired of this crappy weather. Raining nearly every day. Even when it doesn't rain, the ground is so saturated, it's taking FOREVER to dry up. And this stupid yard is so flat the water drains like nowhere, the yard is like a freaking swamp. Which is of course breeding more bugs. I am sick of the bugs. We bugbombed the house, and it DID help in the house. But the bugs are starting to get back in when the doors open. At least they are dying when they get inside. But outside...they are

Sick of the Rain!

Holy COW!!! I live in the Midwest and we've had nothing but rain for the past 6 weeks. I mean it - I've counted three nice days in the last month.   Luckily, there has been no major flooding in my area, but if it keeps up like this I imagine lots of basements will get flooded. The ground is saturated and there is nowhere for more water to go.   Having Levi in this is also interesting. Working from home I can usually get him out for a walk before it starts to pour. He'll also go outside for p

Update on Panama Casita finances

We sort of sat down today and looked at the finances on the property.   We had a few things that were either added or over budget: - a 150? gallon water tank and a pump house that holds the tank, etc - wasn't in the original budget, but with frequent water outages, we opted to add this - we paid $2.7K for airfare & labor to bring Terry's son & daughter in law from Houston to Panama. Chris did several days of tile work and Ashley helped w/ shopping for stuff, picking out my colors, e

Business update for July

Ok, I have the finalized numbers for June's business income, PLUS some really exciting news about July!   I tallied the business income for June and even though I knew it would be good, I was STILL surprised by the total! $1830 for my net! 15% goes to the Roth IRA, but I still have $1500 extra as my snowball. I have several pared down budgets I can use, depending on my business income each month, but so far I have been able to just use my previous budget (based on 30hr/wk at the clinic -- side

Chart Update and Biopsy on Monday

I haven't posted one of these charts for awhile. Last year, when I quit my job, we stopped paying extra to the student loan for the rest of the year, but we did manage to almost max out DH's 401-K.   This year we started paying down this final debt again, which reduced what we could put into the 401-K. You can also see a huge drop in February with the tax refund, which was made possible by the severance package I got when I left my job. They withheld 25 of that check, which we pretty much g

Prayer Chain Request.

I posted a bit ago outlining how our life as homeless squatters was going (really well!) and how the Lord was working in our lives. We have been so touched by the Lord that his fingerprints are clearly visible in the entire situation. We are current living in my great grandparent's farm house on the family farm trusting that the Lord will provide the house we are meant to be in when we are meant to be there. The kids and I will need to move back to Jersey beginning of September which means a hou

Very, very depressed

Well, it is official - one step further along I suppose. The papers have been filed and the restraining order was signed by a judge. My lawyer sent me the signed paperwork today.   This means that my ex can't do anything with our money - so far - the honor system has seemed to work. But now I don't have to check or worry about it.   It just sucks that it had to come to this. It sucks that I don't have ANY family - it sucks that I'm all on my own. I miss my in-laws. I miss my old life - I mis

Panama Update

I came down to Panama on Monday. Here are some pictures that were sent to me on June 30.     This is my friends' house - the opening is the door leading out to the patio. Inside is the living room. Out of sight to the left is the dining / kitchen area and the door to their bedroom / bathroom. The "hallway" in the back goes to the guest bathroom and guest bedroom.     This picture is taken from my "living area" looking into the bedroom. You can see the window opening facing the s

No insightful title

Just don't have any kind of real title. lol   House update: I posted in the forums about the showing we had and the showing DH did lol. Nothing's come of them yet. Open house is this weekend. I have been playing phone tag with the realtor trying to get some details on that. I will call him, get his voicemail, then go do something with the kids outside, come back and see he called, return the call and get voicemail again. I think my sister is going to make some cupcakes for the open hous

Sleep away camp

Naomi leaves tomorrow for a one week sleep away camp! I can't believe we are actually doing this, she wanted it so badly we paid for it out of her savings. It is a Girl Scout camp and it is just 45 minutes from home.   She also appeared to have had a growth spurt, her shorts are too small! I ran over to Goodwill and get her some to bring, her size range was half off today and her cousin and her are in the same size now so no hand me downs. The other cousin was going through a dress phase at th

Short update

My friends closed on the Panama property today!! That means they officially, legally own the property that we have been building on now!   Casita update: The roofing material is on site and the welder has been found. (He was missing a couple of weeks ago - common in Panama, they disappear for a while, sometimes to bars.) The electrical boxes are in place - not positive the wire has been run. My friends' house is further along. They have had their roof for a while and the last of their flo

My Kill the Mortgage Challenge!

I'm putting this out here in LLNOE land in hopes it will keep me motivated and accountable. I am challenging myself to pay off our mortgage by December 2015. There were 2 milestones this year, I turned 50 and we will be in our house for 20 years this month. So I have strong feelings that if I can get our mortgage gone in 2015 it would be the cherry on top!! It really should have been gone, we originally took out a 20 year mortgage but just prior to finding DR we had refinanced and that put o

New diagnosis

I finally made it to the rheumatologist today. She didn't even need to finish the exam to diagnose me with fibromyalgia. It's no surprise, I went there to get diagnosed because the symptoms fit me to a T. Here's hoping adding the Cymbalta in to my regimen will help calm my body pain and let me relax so my bowels can heal!!!
