Will I get anything out of the church-offered FPU classes or the online classes that I haven't probably gotten already from reading all of Dave's books over and over and over from cover to cover? I am considering attending or signing up for one of these things? Any advice?

What he said. People get pretty close during the 13 weeks - and often remain friends via phone calls and emails. : )
Do it!

Reading about it is one thing, experiencing it first hand is totally different, that is if you participate.

I am doing FPU online and now I am wondering if I am missing out on some things by not having interaction with live people.
It was not being offered locally and with the price of gas I hated to drive a long distant in order to attend a live class.
I have several times started to request a password in order to see what is going on in the threads that everyone doesn't have access to but thought maybe that it had no activity going on in them.
I have tried to make my friends or my folks my accountability buddy but they don't really understand what I am doing.
I participate in the online community and it also helps me so much to just come here and read what you all have going on.
But now I am feeling like I maybe missing out on a necessary part of this program.
What is your thought?
How do I fill in the missing parts?
Did you all attend a live class or did some of you just do this on-line?

We did an in-person class last fall--the best value of it was that it opened lines of communication betwee DH and me about $$. But I can honestly say I've gotten more good information and sense of community from this forum than from the classes. The group we were with weren't very talkative and once classes ended there was no sense of continued support or accountability--they were just over. If I hadn't found this forum just by poking around on the internet, we probably wouldn't have kept up with the DR principles as well as we have. Just one opinion...:jim:

I am doing the online course as I am in Australia so no live courses available. I really like being able to log in whenever I feel like it, I also can replay the audios which I do while I am working at the computer. I have found the online community not as active as i would like which is why I joined this forum.
I had read some of daves stuff before and i would start and then stop, doing the course has given me motivation more than anything, and for me that was worth the price. I think attending a live course would be great as it is easier to meet like minded people.

We did the class last fall. I agree with the pp -- it did a lot for our marriage, but the class itself was not very helpful. Around week 8 we stopped going and just started listening to the CDs at home and discussing them in conjunction with the class materials.
The classes really depend upon who is teaching them. Ours was basically a bunch of people sitting in a room watching the DVDs and about 10 minutes of leader lead discussion without any real substance. We never discussed our budgets. We never discussed money saving ideas...
