Our church is FINALLY offering FPU classes this fall. I've been asked to do a 2-minute presentation about it to an outreach program our church hosts, job networking. It's on Monday night and I'll be having a drawing giving away 2 FPU kits to those who are interested.
Any ideas on what to say in only 2 minutes? There's usually abouyt 100 people there and they may or may not have heard of Dave.

My husband forged a ball and chain and wore it while he talked about FPU at church. People remembered it...I'm now known as the ball and chain.
Have a visual representing debt in some way and maybe a counter-visual to represent freedom.

If you have received your login information (from getting registered to be a FPU Coordinator) you can get several FPU promotional videos from Dave's office, and or download them from the FPU Coordinator Resource center, lots of good promotional info there.

I'm not the coordinator, that's one of our ministers. He can't attend the Job Networking event and asked me to do a quick 2-minute talk, take give-away forms and announce the winners.
It has been publicized in the church for about a month and 9800 postcards were sent out to the community last Tuesday.

Job networking group -- maybe focus on the idea that you increased income is only half the battle in finding financial peace?

I would contact the minister that is the Coordinator and get the Coordinator login info, so you can obtain some promotional materials/videos.
However, if he is asking you to say something about FPU, I take it you have personally have gone through FPU already? If so there isn't anything more powerful than a personal testimony.
Not sure these links will work for you but you might try them....

We're currently rolling out at our church and we've been doing the "commercial" video segments along with a personal talk from one of us (we're co-coording with another couple). The feedback we're getting is that while the videos are good, the real-life personal sharing is more meaningful...so I think they're going hand in hand. Like last week I chose one of the videos that shoed Dave giving the statistic of 70% of people being in debt and 55% worrying about it, then I followed in my own testimony saying that I was one of the 15% not worrying at all and that my DH was the one doing more than his share of the worrying for our family. So I'd say do a short video if you can followed by a quick personal testimony. 2 minutes is really short...but will they stop you if you go over by a minute or two?

Yes, I've attended FPU.
The minister is out of town, so it's too late for me to get the coordinator login info.
Thanks for the ideas everyone. I've gone to Dave's site and put together something to say. Do you think I should wear my DR live event volunteer T-shirt? Or something else, since they are all probably dressed more professionally?
Now say a prayer for me that I don't start sweating profusely! I get nervous speaking to a large group!

Here's what I'm planning to say, just in case it helps someone else! (And yeah, I might go over 2-minutes just a littel! :)
You’re here tonight to find a job, but making money is only part of the equation. Once you have it, what do you do with it?
According to the Wall Street Journal, 70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck.
55% worry about it.
Are 15% just in denial?
• Is there way too much month left at the end of your money?
• Are you planning for retirement, college for your kids, or do you even have ANY goals for what you earn?
• Are you making your money behave?
• Have poor financial decisions stolen your stolen your hope and destroyed your peace?
How many of you have heard of Dave Ramsey and his course Financial Peace University? He’s got a talk show on 640 am from 3-7 pm weekdays.
Financial Peace University (FPU) is a 13-week, life-changing program that empowers and teaches you how to make the right money decisions to achieve your financial goals and experience a total money makeover. You’ll learn everything from how to live debt-free to the greatest misunderstanding about money. It’s not boring, but a fun, dynamic, and educational 2 hr. course taught partially by Dave on DVD and partially small group discussion. You don’t have to share anything you don’t want to share.
It’s about getting the tools to understand money. Helping one another.
Consumer Reports Money Book says the average household has $38,000 in debt and that consumer debt has almost tripled since 1980.
Are you average or above average?
Over 350,000 families and individuals have attended FPU. On average these families have paid off over $5,300 in debt and saved $2,700 during 13-week program! Even if you think you’re good with what you’ve earned, you will learn from this program.
We will be offering FPU classes here in the Dod starting Sept. 11 from 7-9 pm. If you’d like to attend, please fill out one of these cards for 2 drawings for FREE FPU kits. You only need one kit per household.
The kit includes:
• FPU book
• FPU work book
• CD’s of the 13 lessons
• Lifetime membership in FPU, you can attend a refresher course anytime, anywhere!
