Honestly, we can't afford FPU for even one of us (sorry, Dorothy - we really are spending every penny on rent, utilities, gas for our one beater car, and frugal groceries! ;) ) Life is just unbearably tight. BUT... I want to do FPU for DH and I as well as our 18 and 20 yo sons, both of whom are living at home and paying their own way through the local community college. How much would that cost us?

You only need one kit per family. Since your kids are living at home... they are still dependents and still in the "family". You guys will just have to share the workbook or make copies.
Most churches order in bulk and get a discount that way. When we did it... our kits were $96 and that included shipping.
So - around $96 or less is what you should expect to pay for your whole family.

Also if your Church happens to be hosting FPU, go to your pastor and discuss your situation. They might pay most of it if not all of it.
At our church we do this on a case by case basis. Although we do not give the FPU away for nothing any longer, we have proven that when this is done, (not just at our Church but reported by many other Coordinators that) people just do not take it serious, as they have nothing invested, and all have dropped out before the class wa half over.
Last class we had a Lady wanted to take the class so bad, and even $20.00 was tough for her to come by, but she was excited when we told her based on her situation the Church was only going to require her to pay $20 for the FPU kit. To make a long story short she was a Honor Graduate (we do a little extra in our class's).
So go set down with the FPU Coordinators, take them your budget, and income, show them you NEED this class bad and are willing to do most anything to take it, if your sincere I am sure they will work with you.
Bottom line, you guys cant afford NOT to take this class, find a way to do it! Good luck to you.

Not only everything they said but just to pass on some more.
Dave welcomes the copying of things from his workbook as long as it is not for sale. So you could make some copies of the important things that need to be filled in so that your son's could fully participate. Just an idea!

Thank you!
We don't have a class here yet - I have heard of a woman in the area who is an FPU coordinator, though, and I am going to call her this week and ask when and where she is offering classes.

oops - I see it was Dorothy I mentioned, but it was Gretchen who posted about not being able to afford FPU. I am so sorry.
When I have an unusual expense like this, I make an extra quilt or garment to sell or try to get some other sewing work to finance it. If I only have to pay the $100, I think I can work it out.

Cathe - is FPU offered at your church? If not, how about coordinating? That's what we're doing! Coordinators get their kit for free, not to mention I'm really excited to bring FPU to our church and community. It has been a bit of footwork, but all good. Our class starts in September, we're very excited!
Oh, and I asked around here and found that many folks went through their first FPU as coordinators, so it is not necessary to have gone through it first.
