Hello! DH and I listen to DR and are starting to work the TMMO plan. We'd like to attend FPU as well, and there is a class starting up at the end of August in our area. The thing is, it starts the same week that I start my next semester of classes, and I know this whole year of school is going to be VERY intense for me. I am worried that between work, school, kids, trying to stay on-track with budgeting, etc, that I might be stretching myself too thin and not get much out of FPU right now. DH really wants to go to FPU, but does not want to go without me. Does FPU require a lot of "homework", or what is all involved? If you were me, would you do it right now?

One day a week, for 2 hours, for 13 weeks.
The "homework" is to review the chapters and do your budget.
Well, well worth the time invested to help make it a habit. It made our household more peaceful in the sense that it took away a lot of the money stress. It's amazing how much of a change that brings!

The class is designed for a 2 hour time slot, however do to other constraints our FPU class's are 1:45.
And based on your schedule you mentioned, I most certainly recommend it. The homework isn't difficult at all, a little reading, working on your budget a a few other simple tasks. But the peace you are going to find with the program is going to be a real God send!
Start FPU, go the full 13 weeks and you will be wishing it wasn't ending.

I understand your time constraints! I was a full-time worker/part-time student for years.
If you can attend the 2 hr. class and do a little reading (as I recall it didn't take more than 30 minutes, but I had already read TMMO so I had the basic understanding.) Then your dh could do most of the work of figuring out where you're money is currently going and starting a budget plan. The two of you could talk for 30 minutes or less twice a week to get it ironed out at first. The amount of time would lessen as the budget gets perfected. You could start on this process before your classes start.
Go for it!

by far the most time-intensive week is the one where you do your first budget. but since you are already working on that now, it shouldn't be very hard for you. other than that, it is mainly reading a couple chapters in financial peace, which doesn't take much time at all. we really enjoyed going...we were sad when it ended. i got stuck with all the "homework" because dh wouldn't do it. there were 3 babies born over the course of our FPU class and everyone still kept up fine.
