DH and I obviously LOVE Dave. We've been sharing our new found love for awhile now and friends are interested in learning more.

Considering having an afternoon here for our friends to learn more about Dave's plan. This would be a one-time thing to give them the gist of the plan.

What would you suggest we say about the plan? :saywhat: SO much to say!!!!
Baby Steps
Budget, budget, budget...
GIVING back to yourself FINALLY!
Calling Auto Ins to negotiate lowering premium
Calling Credit Cards to negotiate better rate
Envelopes

OR maybe it would be best to buy everyone a copy and be there to answer questions; maybe a month afterwards have a BBQ w/all of 'em to discuss?

Well you can now get the live event on his website. Maybe order it and watch with them.

Do you have the DVDs?

I think there might be promotional DVDs as well.....I know before our church does an FPU, they show the highlights...

As far as my opinion other than a Dave DVD -

Make it a personal testimony of where you were, where you are - and where you can now expect to be!

I would give them a short testimony. Key word SHORT!
Then would give them a book and the website.
Encourage them to read the book and listen to Dave on the webcast or radio show.

Then have them over for your second BBQ and see if they have any questions.

First reason is a lot of Dave's plan is changing your habits and giving up things you think you "deserve" and your friends could take as you telling them to give up their vacation or to buy their kids clothes at consignment shops. You then become the killjoy and people will avoid you and say things like "oohh don't tell john and sue we went out eat last night, or don't tell sue but we're going shopping tomorrow" I saw this happen to couple we knew.

Secondly one of the reasons Dave is popular is because he is soooo good at motivating you and explaining why you should "live like no one else"

We are in the same position as you and we LOVE Dave and his plan and have seen so many great things happen to us financially but the truth is his plan is tough and several of our friends will have no part of it. So we just try to live our lives as an example without getting too preachy.

ooh I just saw mary's response, that looks like a great idea!

GREAT ideas guys!! I'm totally with you about coming off "preachy" :greetings: That's kinda what I'm scared about. I don't want them to be different with us...

Anywho, I'll get cracking on the letter. Gotta buy some books now too. It's inevitable- we keep coming back to wanting to share TMMO w/others. We've just got to "do it" now.

Dont try to sell them on the plan if you do let Dave do it, there is plenty of materials out there to do it, just share it with them.

Another idea is to get the 20 minute FPU Orientation Video and share that with them that is a great summary.

Don't forget to tell them about this site BEFORE your party. I learned so much just lurking here. If they are truly interested they would have bunches of questions for you at your BBQ party.

Thanks for the heads up! For my 30th birthday I did buy into this special. We gave out almost all the books.

I haven't read all the PP, but I know your heart is in the right place. I think the first thing they have to "catch" before you go into particulars, is a vision of being debt-free. Just going into envelopes and interest rates won't hold any meaning until they've imagined themselves with no payments to anyone and the freedom that brings. I don't think anyone brings that excitement like DR does, so I would definitely try to find him on DVD (or youtube).

I was going to suggest the same - simply invite a few friends to view the preview class video one evening, and offer dessert & coffee.

Definitely do not do a bate and switch. Let them know you are showing the preview and inviting people interested in watching it - no strings. I agree - let Dave do the work. :sillygreeting:Dont try to sell them on the plan if you do let Dave do it, there is plenty of materials out there to do it, just share it with them.
